LOCUMS NOCTURNIST

A narrative medical mystery combining authentic clinical decision-making with paranormal investigation. Your choices shape the story across seven nights.

The Experience

Medicine and the Paranormal Are Natural Partners

Long before the scientific method, healers stood at the boundary between life and death. They witnessed things that defied explanation. Modern medicine inherited this legacy—the late-night vigils, the liminal spaces, the moments when monitors flatline and something inexplicable happens. Locums Nocturnist explores what occurs when a classically trained physician discovers she can perceive what others cannot.

Seven Nights

Experience a complete narrative arc across seven episodic overnight shifts, each building on the last.

Real Clinical Decisions

Manage authentic medical scenarios—heart failure, GI bleeds, acute coronary syndrome, rapid responses.

Atmospheric Tension

Slow-burn supernatural dread, not jump scares. Something wrong in your peripheral vision.

Meaningful Characters

Form connections with hospital staff as you uncover the mystery of a deceased mother and her baby.

The Protagonist

Dr. Rebecca Thomas

38 years old. Internal medicine. The kind of doctor who reads the nursing notes first— meticulous, empathetic, and still haunted by the case that got away. Rebecca took this locums assignment for the money and the distance. She'll stay for reasons she doesn't yet understand.

Not a horror-movie victim. A professional dealing with increasingly inexplicable circumstances. Her clinical competence IS the gameplay—you make her medical decisions.

"She carries her losses carefully, like full coffee cups—not spilling, but always aware of the weight."

Who We Are

About NerdcoreMedical

N

NerdcoreMedical

NerdcoreMedical has spent more than a decade building medical education products that clinicians actually want to engage with. Founded on the premise that learning medicine doesn't have to be a joyless exercise in passive consumption, we create games, art, and interactive experiences that meet clinicians where they live—curious, time-pressured, and deeply committed to staying sharp.

Our catalog spans tabletop card games, clinical reference tools, and the Curative Design series of clinician-created medical illustration posters—products born from the conviction that great medical education is also, in some meaningful sense, great design.

We're a physician-led company. That means clinical accuracy isn't a feature—it's a floor. And it means we're unafraid to build things the medical education establishment hasn't tried before.

NerdcoreMedical Digital

NerdcoreMedical Digital is the company's interactive fiction studio, and its founding thesis is simple: the most effective continuing medical education you'll ever experience might feel less like a lecture and more like a very good story that refuses to let you go.

We call it Narratively Enhanced CME—the deliberate fusion of literary craft, psychological atmosphere, and rigorous clinical content into experiences that are genuinely hard to put down. Our inaugural projects, Locums Nocturnist and noctuRNe, follow clinicians navigating high-stakes overnight shifts at a small hospital where not everything can be explained by the differential.

These aren't edutainment products dressed up in dark clothes. The clinical content is co-developed with practicing physicians, grounded in real inpatient medicine—volume overload, ACS, GI bleeds, ICU escalation—and designed to surface the systems-thinking that separates good clinicians from great ones.

This is what medical education looks like when you stop apologizing for being interesting.

For Physicians

Locums Nocturnist offers an accessible base version for the clinically curious and a Pro tier carrying AMA PRA Category 1 CME credit.

For Nurses

noctuRNe brings the same seven-episode arc and atmosphere to nursing practice, with a Pro tier offering ANCC CE credit—reaching the more than four million registered nurses whose continuing education landscape has been dramatically underserved by imagination.
